Reflection

How do you envision your growth throughout this process? What skills and knowledge do you hope to gain, and how will they contribute to your overall development? The first area that I am hoping to grow in during my time at Trinity is my faith. Nothing that I learn here will amount to much if I don't build a firm foundation on God. I chose a Christian university in the hopes that it would teach me how to connect my religion to my schooling and help me obtain the necessary skills to build a Christ centered life. I hope that whatever I learn during my time here can be used to fulfill God's will for my life. I also want to grow in community. I am hoping to be pushed out of my comfort zone to connect with the people around me more meaningfully and create a welcoming community. I want to know people and understand people and I want to learn how to apply that knowledge to the world around me. Everywhere I go I want to be building a welcoming community.  I...

Resources

Image
**Resources**: What resources (faculty, mentors, academic support services) do you plan to utilize? How will you seek out and engage with these resources? photo from:  19 Best Public Libraries in America (fodors.com) My English class requires that I go to the Writing Centre 4 times in order to pass the course. However I imagine I will using the writing center for a lot of my classes once I started needing to write essays. I'm not used to having someone help me with my work, so I'm not sure what exactly that entails, but I have heard that working with a tutor in the writing center can make your work a lot better. I want to take advantage of every opportunity I have to learn and grow during my time studying at TWU.  Another resource that I have been using is my dad who works at Trinity. There have been a couple times where I have been totally lost on an assignment and been able to call him to come and help me out. I have been very blessed to have parents who are so suppor...

Challenges

Image
**Possible Challenges**: What obstacles might you face along the way? Consider both academic and personal challenges and think about strategies you can use to overcome them. I currently struggle with communicating effectively with the people around me. I've struggled with Social anxiety my whole life which can make it really difficult for me to connect with my peers. I've been working through this, and my goal for university is to become better involved with my community  photo from:  mazeacademy.com/classes/11-mathematics/ Another challenge I might face is any math or science related course. Between grades 2 and 9 I didn't have a math teacher in school and have since found myself performing significantly worse than my peers in both math and science. When the time comes for me to take one of those classes to get my major I imagine I will find it quite challenging.  However, both my dad and my brother are really good at math and are always happy to hel...

Pit Stops

1.       **Pit Stops**: Identify the important milestones along your journey. These could include specific courses, internships, research opportunities, or extracurricular activities that will help you reach your destination. I would like to get an internship working in publishing at some point before I graduate. I haven't properly looked into the different internship options yet, but likely working as an intern for a journal or magazine company would be the most impactful for hands on learning about the reality of publishing and how competitive the business can be.  I want to focus a lot on writing courses to improve my own grammar and spelling, I can't critique others if I can't write myself, as well as communications courses to help me with the more technical side of the work force. My mom handles all the HR work for my old high school and the degrees she got in order to do so were Communications and English. Another good opportunity for me to grow durin...

Arrival!

**Destination**: Where do you want to go? Define your academic and career goals. What degree do you hope to earn, and what career paths are you considering? In the past, my dream job was to work as a counselor in an elementary school. Growing up, my counselors helped me when I was struggling with anxiety in school and I wanted to be able to fulfill that role in other children's lives in the future to give back. However, shortly after starting Psychology I realized it wasn't for me and switched over to minors in media + communication and English. My long term goal is to become an editor and edit children's books. But if possible I would like to publish books as well. I am hopeful that I will be able to stay on top of work and classes to graduate at the end of 4 years at Trinity. I'm not entirely sure what degree I want to pursue right now, but it will likely have something to do with English and hopefully I can make a career out of my passion for books.

You are here!!

Where are you right now in your academic journey? Describe your current major, interests, and any relevant experiences that have shaped your academic identity I am in my first semester of my first year at Trinity Western University. Originally I enrolled with the intention of pursuing a degree in Psychology, but I switched my major over to General Studies and am working on minors in Media + Communications and English.  When I was accepted into Trinity I applied for the Torch scholarship, so my parents are encouraging me to take all the classes I'm interested in and experiment until I find the subject I love.  Between classes and homework I don't have a lot of time to spend with friends, so meal times are one of the biggest social activities in my life right now. Me and my friends meet to chat about classes and help each other with homework in the cafeteria. On top of that, being in school and living alone for the first time, it can be hard to remember to go out and get food, o...
